Ed Holt at Strix Systems, one of our favorite Access Point Manufacuters, has announced the release of their Second Generation OWS (outdoor wireless) AP's. Most of our network is based on the Strix Systems AP's and the amazingly efficient and dynamic mesh architecture they provide.
These new units are much the same in size and function - but with improved internal design making it much easier for the end operator to maintain the device and replace radio cards as needed. Add to this a huge increase in RF power on each card - from the older 100mW now to a tunable and software attenuable whopping 400mW! Improved gui management interfaces and a reliabilty which is guaranteed to make any operator happy. With these improvements we'll be able to manage our devices more easily and increase our per-unit coverage area without additional external amplifiers or large dish style antennaes. - it's no wonder why we love the folks at Strix!
Keep up the good work!
For more info on these devices, please see
Strix Systems Corporate Website.
If you would like to help put more of these devices near you or would like to purchase several for your area or needs - we can sell them to you - direct. Ask a sales and network professional about which options are right for you. Average prices range from $4,549 to over $6,369 per node (multi radios) retail. We welcome donations to our cause to purchase more of these for our free community network.
